it’s nice to see that there are some on my dash who actually care about what’s going on in ferguson. to the others…
Kasim: You don’t know what I know about Angel. Why are you all in her business anyway? What are you doing, stalking her?
Gabrielle: Hardly! I didn’t look for the information I have. It just fell in my lap actually.
Kasim: I bet it did.
Gabrielle: People talk, Kasim. You should know that.
Kasim: Yeah? What people are you talking about?
Gabrielle: I’m not revealing my source to you. Either you want the information I have or you don’t. And if you want it, you’ll have to work for it.
Relishing that she had the upper hand, Gabrielle nonchalantly inspected her nails, while Kasim fumed.
Kasim: I’m not working for shit unless I know it came from some place reliable.
Gabrielle: Oh, it’s reliable.
Kasim: And how am I supposed to know that?
Gabrielle: You’ll just have to trust me.
Kasim: Fuck that!
When he opened the door, Gabrielle quickly blurted out enough to keep him from leaving.
Gabrielle: She had to get a reference for her new job, and from what I was told, she specifically asked that no one disclose her whereabouts to you.
Hearing that just made him angrier and even more determined to find Angel.
Kasim: Oh really? Who told you that? It had to be someone in Human Resources. They’re gossiping about confidential information in HR now?
Realizing she may have said more that she should have, Gabrielle quickly tried to deflect.
Gabrielle: I didn’t say it was anyone from Human Resources.
Kasim: You didn’t have to. Who else would she contact for a reference?
Gabrielle: Her colleagues… her supervisor. It could be anybody.
Kasim knew damn well it wasn’t just anybody, but arguing with Gabrielle over it was a waste of time. At that point, his only interest was finding Angel.
Kasim: You have her new address?
Gabrielle: No, but I know what school she applied to.
Kasim: What good is that gonna do me?
Gabrielle: If you know where she works, you’ll at least know what town she’s in. It’s more than what you know now, isn’t it?
When he didn’t respond, she smiled smugly.
Gabrielle: She’s not in St. Claire anymore.
Kasim: Did they hire her?
Gabrielle: I’m not sure about that, but if she’s applying for jobs there-
Kasim: What do you mean you’re not sure? You’re telling me all this bullshit and trying to blackmail me with something you’re not even sure about?!
Gabrielle: Blackmail is a very ugly word. I prefer to think of this as a fair exchange.
Kasim was almost certain that whatever Gabrielle knew had come from someone in Human Resources. As part of the team that had facilitated HR’s move to an electronic filing system, he could easily gain access to the database. Unwittingly, Gabrielle had given him enough information to find what he needed on his own, so there was no reason to entertain her any further.
Kasim: I don’t want to hear anymore of this shit. You need to stay out of Angel’s business and stop playing with me. If you ever try to set me up and do some shit like this again, I’m going to your house to see your husband. And I’m gonna tell him everything. We did what we did, we had our little fun and now I’m done. Leave me alone.
Gabrielle: You’ll be back.
Kasim: We’ll see about that.
After leaving Gabrielle, he took care of the last job he had for the day and then headed back to his office. He went straight to his computer to see if he could access Angel’s personnel file.
He found her file, but couldn’t find anything related to her reference request. If there was an electronic record, he knew it would either be in her personnel file or an email. There were too many employees in Human Resources to start illicitly digging through their email accounts at that moment. He decided to put it off until the next day, when he’d have time to search thoroughly and cover his tracks.
His other order of business was to see Devin. He’d never been to her house and he wasn’t sure how she’d react to him showing up unannounced. However, she left him little choice since she insisted on ignoring him. When he arrived, he knocked on her apartment door and waited nervously for her to answer. Instead of Devin, he was greeted to a small voice on the other side of the door.
Imani: Who is it?
Kasim: Uhh… Hi, my name is Kasim. Is your mom home?
He heard the lock click and the door swung open.
JJ: Who are you?
Imani: Oooooh! That’s mommy’s boyfriend. I saw them kissing in the car. Don’t he look like Daddy, JJ?
Imani: Yes he do.
Imani darted away from the door and disappeared inside the apartment screaming “Mommyyyyy!” at the top of her lungs, while JJ remained at the door eyeing Kasim warily.
After almost a month, Kasim still hadn’t spoken to Devin or Dylan. He reached out to Devin several times, but she wasn’t returning any of his calls or messages. He hadn’t made any effort to call Dylan, but found it strange that she hadn’t tried to contact him either. Normally, she would have at least called to cuss him out.
Kasim didn’t like being ignored, but he did wonder if leaving them alone might be the best thing to do. His role in their conflict was messy enough, but the situation with their mother was on another level and a definite turnoff. Having multiple woman was as natural to Kasim as breathing and he wasn’t trying to get shot or killed because of it.
However, her murderous mother aside, Kasim still wanted to see if he could work things out with Devin. He really did like her and she was the only girl that he had seriously considered putting on since Angel. As far as Angel, he’d reached a dead end in his efforts to find her. He thought after a few weeks her new address, phone number or job would become public record, and he would be able to find her with some creative digging, but his searches weren’t turning up anything. It was obvious Angel didn’t want to be found. She had moved on and forgot all about him. He wanted to move on and forget about her too, but no matter how hard he tried he couldn’t.
Working for the school district wasn’t helping him to forget about Angel either, since he frequently had to respond to calls at the elementary school where she used to work. He had two more jobs to finish before the day was over and one was at the elementary school. When he got off work, he planned to go see Devin. He was going to try to work things out with her one last time before washing his hands of her. Chasing behind Angel was one thing, because there were feelings and history involved. There was only so much time he was going to waste on a new chick.
When he got to the classroom, he was annoyed to find there was no one around to tell him which computer needed to be serviced. This was a call usually assigned to lower level techs, but for some reason he was sent to handle it. He didn’t protest since it was the end of the day and it would be a quick and easy job. He didn’t want to spend all day waiting around, so he started turning on computers to see if he could find the broken one on his own, when he heard the door open and close.
Gabrielle: Well, well… Hello Kasim.
Kasim: I don’t believe this shit. You’re the reason I’m here?
Gabrielle: Of course. I knew only you could get the job done.
He ignored the innuendo and the self-satisfied smirk on her face.
Kasim: You didn’t need me. Another tech could have taken care of this.
Gabrielle: Not the way you take care of it.
She winked and chuckled at him suggestively.
Kasim: Which computer needs to be fixed, Gabrielle?
She pulled down the shade on the door and locked it.
Kasim: What are you doing?
Gabrielle: We’re going to need privacy. Do you know I’ve missed you terribly? Have you missed me?
Kasim: Ok, I see you wanna play games. Let me get the fuck outta here.
He walked towards the door, but she remained in front of it blocking his path.
Kasim: MOVE, Gabrielle. I have other things to do. I don’t have time for this shit.
Gabrielle: I think you need a massage. Why are you always so tense?
Kasim: Why am I so tense? Let me tell you why… First you invite me to your house to fuck without telling me that you’re married. Then you try to stick your finger in my ass. Then your husband comes home, almost catches us, and you throw me out butt ass naked. And after all of that, I also almost got arrested.
Kasim: Now you got me locked up in this room, with the shade closed, for me to catch a sexual harassment charge and lose my job. This is why I’m tense. Move out of the way, so I can leave.
Gabrielle: You’re totally overreacting-
Kasim: Overreacting?! Are you fucking serious?!
Gabrielle: I told you that I was sorry. I didn’t know how to tell you about Donald. And you should know I wasn’t going to let you get arrested.
Kasim: I don’t know shit. When that cop asked you was I at your house to fix your computer you didn’t say anything. If he hadn’t figured out what was going on with us, I don’t know what would’ve happened.
Gabrielle: Well you weren’t arrested and everything worked out. Oh my God, that was like so long ago. Why are you still angry?
She pressed her body against his, traced her finger down his face and slid her other hand between them.
Kasim: C’mon, Gabrielle. Stop.
Gabrielle: Let me make it up to you.
Kasim: I don’t need you to make anything up to me. Stop it!
He moved her hand from his crotch and backed away from her, but she advanced on him again, deftly slid her fingers under his waistband and into his boxers. She sighed appreciatively when she was rewarded with a handful of warm meat. He again grabbed her hand and pulled it from his underwear.
Kasim: What the fuck are you doing?!!!?
Gabrielle: I want to feel your big, juicy cock inside me.
Kasim: You are bugging! Move out of my way, Gabrielle.
He moved her aside, unlocked the door and pulled it open to leave when her words made him stop in his tracks.
Gabrielle: Did you really find Angelique or were you lying to me? I have it on good authority that you haven’t a clue of where to find her.
He turned slowly to look at Gabrielle.
Kasim: Is that right? And you do?
Gabrielle: It pays to have friends in high places. The question is what are you going to do to motivate me to share what I know?
